Watches
Verify reference, authenticity, timekeeping and provenance carefully.
What actually matters in this niche
For used watches, establish the reference, provenance and verifiable condition first. A running movement or box does not prove authenticity; a brief timekeeping comparison establishes neither service condition nor water resistance. Have unresolved issues assessed before buying.
CrowFlip deliberately does not publish a fixed margin or demand score here. Both depend on the exact item, condition, buy price, sales channel and timing.
Check before buying
- Verify reference and serial characteristics
- Test timekeeping/functions
- Inspect bracelet, clasp, crystal and case
- Use additional authentication for higher values
Red flags
- Inconsistent references
- Heavy polishing without disclosure
- Unclear provenance at an unusually low price
Common marketplaces for comparison
This is not a ranking recommendation. Check fees, rules and real comparable sales for the specific item.
What can you document about a watch yourself?
Photograph the dial, case, case back, bracelet and clasp; record the reference, visible markings, accessories and provenance documents. Distinguish claimed original parts from evidenced details. Document papers and box separately instead of treating them as authentication.
Check only functions you know how to operate. Record the start time, reference clock and observation duration for a timekeeping comparison. Do not open the case for a quick buying check or test water resistance yourself with water. Arrange a qualified inspection before buying if material doubts remain.
Hypothetical example: a running watch without service records
Suppose a watch runs during viewing but has no service receipt. A sold watch with documented servicing and confirmed originality is not an equivalent comparison. Find sales with similarly uncertain condition or establish inspection and service costs first.
An estimated service discount does not resolve an authenticity question. Without reliable verification, do not repeat a definite originality claim in your resale listing. An unusually low price does not replace inspection.
