Always include packaging, label, drop-off time, and loss risk in your shipping model. That is the only way to reflect your real margin.
Boxes, filling material, and tape often add 0.50 EUR to 1.50 EUR per shipment. If you skip this, your deal margin will look better than reality.
Deepen your shipping model with carrier comparison and formula guide.
Hermes is often the better choice for heavy but compact packages. Since Hermes charges primarily based on size (sum of longest + shortest side), weight (up to 25kg) hardly matters.
DHL is unbeatable for lightweight items or when speed counts. The 2kg Package for 6.19 € is the standard for most small sales as it is insured and offers tracking.
At the turn of the year, almost all major carriers increased prices. DHL notably raised prices for branch stamps, making Online Franking (as shown in our calculator) even more important to save up to 2 Euros.
Hermes also adjusted, but remains the price-performance winner for shipments to parcel shops ('Shop2Shop'). Use our calculator above to always find the currently cheapest rate for your specific package dimensions.
Beware of DHL Päckchen S and M: These shipping methods are cheap but have no tracking and no insurance.
The Risk: If a buyer on eBay or PayPal reports an "Item not received", you automatically lose the case as you cannot provide proof of postage. The money is gone and so is the item.
Our Recommendation: For eBay sales, always use at least the DHL Paket 2kg (6.19€) or a Hermes Päckchen (from 4.89€), as tracking is included here.
